LC Reimbursement (LCR) — Full Product Flow

Standalone interbank reimbursement product handling the lifecycle from authorization (MT740) through claim verification (MT742), payment (MT756), and closure. Separate from the ILC product; driven by incoming SWIFT messages from the issuing bank.

Overview

ProductLCR Reimbursement

The Letter of Credit Reimbursement (LCR) product manages the reimbursement lifecycle between an issuing bank and a reimbursing bank. Unlike the ILC product (which originates from the applicant side), LCR is driven by incoming SWIFT messages from the issuing bank — primarily MT740 Authorization to Reimburse — and progresses through authorization, amendment, acknowledgment, claim verification, refusal, payment, and closure.

Authorization (MT740 in) is the entry point: it creates the Reimbursement Master, which becomes the hub for every later event. Arrow labels show what triggers each branch.

Where It Starts

Event Catalog

Every event below is pre-configured in the product's event setup and drives which screens, queues, and messages are offered to operations staff. All events use the standard Create/Update/Approval/Cancellation policy quartet via createStandardPolicies().

All events use 4-queue maker–checker (Input → Update → Approval → Cancellation). Mandatory SWIFT messages must be generated on the Swift tab before final approval.

Parties & Shared Platform

Parties on every Reimbursement

Issuing Bank
Sends MT740 (authorization), MT747 (amendment), receives MT756 (payment advice) and MT202 (cover).
Reimbursing Bank
Your bank — receives MT740/MT747, verifies MT742 claims, sends MT756/MT202, manages the ReimbursementMaster.
Presenting / Claiming Bank
Presents documents under the LC; sends MT742 (claim) and MT744 (refusal) to the reimbursing bank.
Beneficiary
Ultimate recipient of funds; not a direct party to the reimbursement messages.
Correspondent Banks
Sender's correspondent (53a), receiver's correspondent (54a) route the MT756/MT202 settlement.

How Every Event Runs (Shared Plumbing)

Operations staff experienced with one stage will recognize every other stage — the mechanics differ only in the data captured. Three mechanisms apply throughout:

Maker–Checker Workflow Queues

When a form is saved it enters the INPUT queue. Submitting advances the record through its configured queue sequence; a decline sends it back one queue with the reasons recorded. The final approval queue performs all release actions at once — postings, charges, electronic messages, and stage-specific effects on the ReimbursementMaster.

  • Status pattern: P — in progress → AP — approved (or CN — cancelled).
  • A workflow reference (event code + sequence) is minted so every action is traceable in history.

Release Tabs (Posting · Charges · Swift · Advice · Settlement)

Each event is configured with the tabs it needs. Visible tabs must be complete before submit: every posting and charge line needs an account number, and any mandatory SWIFT message must be generated and saved. Completion is shown with colour badges on the tabs.

  • Posting — the accounting legs (double-entry) the event produces.
  • Charges — commission lines that may generate their own postings and a customer debit advice.
  • Swift — generate/validate the outbound messages for the event.
  • Advice / Settlement — event-specific extras (charge debit advice PDF; settlement accounts for claim payments).

Incoming & Outgoing SWIFT Handling

  • Inbound messages (MT740, MT747, MT742, MT744) arrive on dedicated Received MTxxx screens. They are parsed into BusinessObjects, syntax-validated, and stored with a Pending status.
  • Matching — the router pre-filters the event form by LC reference or authorization ID; operations confirm the match before proceeding.
  • Outbound messages (MT747, MT756, MT202, MT744, MT799, MT730) are generated from the form's capture data, syntax-checked, saved to the Swift tab, and released on final approval.
  • Release pipeline prevents double-dispatch and duplicate emails by marking messages Generated → Released atomically.

Product Configuration

Everything the stage sections describe as per event configuration is defined once, up front, on the Product Configuration screen. One Product record owns the reimbursement setup (product code RIB): identity fields and the Reimbursement Configuration block on Main Details, plus seven setup tabs that feed the queues, charges, SWIFT messages, checklists and postings each event uses. The reimbursement block appears when the product type is LCR.

Save-time validations. Reference length must be greater than 0; the rejection waiting period and pre-debit notice days must be non-negative numbers. Deployment-level: app.settlement.claim.iban-required (default true; env var APP_SETTLEMENT_CLAIM_IBAN_REQUIRED) — when true, claim settlement validation requires both debit and credit IBANs to resolve to existing accounts.
